Are You Doing It Right?

This will be the first post in a bi-weekly series focused on quick and easy tips to help you start making subtle changes to your eating habits.  This week we will discuss the importance of proper food combination.

The improper combination of food on a day to day basis can cause you to miss out on the nutrients that your body would otherwise benefit from.  One of the number one culprits in the matter is an old standby when it comes to a hearty dinner, meat and potatoes.   The high levels of protein and starches in these beloved staples interfere with the body's ability to properly absorb the nutrients from both.  This ultimately puts an undo strain on the digestive process.  Additionally, incorrectly combining foods can put your body at a disadvantage over time as it can cause degeneration of tissue and an unstable metabolism.  The ultimate goal of feeding our bodies is to gain the maximum amount of nutrients possible, but we are counteracting the process if we are going to eat foods that do not interact well.  There is no need to eat an abundance of nutritious food if the vitamins and minerals will just pass through unused.

I have included a few different types of charts that break down the best and worst food combinations based on food groups.  Happy Eating!
